Motivation:
Mobile agricultural machinery is currently powered predominantly by fossil diesel. Various renewable energy sources and propulsion concepts are already available to support a sustainable and independent transformation of the energy supply in agriculture. However, there is as yet no comprehensive and quantitative framework for assessment to transparently record their environmental, economic and social impacts, identify conflicting objectives, compare developments in a meaningful way, highlight areas where action is needed, and provide a sound basis for investment and technology decisions.

Goal:
As part of the project, a sustainability assessment method is being developed for the provision and use of renewable energy sources in mobile machinery. This method takes equal account of environmental, economic and social aspects and quantifies them in order to enable a systematic comparison of different concepts. The method developed is intended to take operational requirements and real-world application conditions into account, thereby laying the foundations for systematically analysing sustainability, classifying developments and supporting the establishment and further development of sustainable energy solutions.
